Once upon a time…
Nestled in the picturesque Charente region, this captivating fortress dates back to the 15th century and has a rich history intertwined with noble families.
Originally owned by Jean Jousserand, squire, lord of Laire, it remained in his family’s possession until the mid-17th century, passing through the hands of the Touchimbert and Lameth families. In 1872, a descendant of the Prévost de Touchimbert family, Louise Marie Stéphanie, married the Marquis de Lameth who became the son in law of Marquis the Touchimbert. The two Gentleman started the expansion of the castle, which lasted from 1870 to 1906, which was financed by the sale of a rum distillery (of Marquis de Lameth) in Martinique. The chateau is showcasing a mesmerizing blend of neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance architecture, reminiscent of Viollet-le-Duc’s style, who was a french architect and author, known for his work at Notre Dame in Paris.
The castle boasts a stunning facade adorned with coats of arms and intricate stained glass windows. The courtyard side features a rectangular main building with a front pavilion and wing, while the garden side offers a different charm, with circular and medieval-style towers. Nearby, you’ll find historic outbuildings once used as a concierge, stables, and barns.
Londigny Castle invites you to step back in time and experience the grandeur of the 19th century in this remarkable setting, where history and architectural beauty converge.
